Maintaining your Older Car

Those who drive earlier model cars in the Golden State may do so from financial need however it is necessary to keep your car well maintained to prevent problems turning into costly repair bills. As cars become older, their performance generally lags, they can have difficulty idling and may be more vulnerable to extremes of weather. While your CA auto insurance may financially in the event of an accident, keeping your vehicle in excellent condition might help keep it going for a few years longer.  Here are a few ideas to get you started.

Consider using high mileage fluids
Once your car has started to gain a miles on the clock, you may wish to think about purchasing special high mileage oils, which, though more expensive, are designed to help keep your older car working.

Clean your car regularly
A regular wash and wax will not only keep your vehicle looking good but may also help prevent some rust spots and other damage to your car's bodywork.

Keep tires at recommended inflation levels
Keep an eye on your tires. Keep inflated at the levels stated in your car's handbook and check tread.

Having a reliable mechanic regularly service the vehicle is also likely to help keep it at optimum performance. Ensuring brakes and tires are in good condition and able to perform if you need to brake to avoid a collision can make the difference between arriving home safely and having to call your CA auto insurance agent to file a claim.
